Save Gas, Save the Planet
General Audience: People are riding clean with a new generation of hybrid vehicles and alternate fuels. Understand the new era of electric propulsion. Hear from the users of plug-in hybrids, electric vehicles, biofuels, and hydrogen. John Addison shares highlights from his new book about how people are spending more time riding clean, riding together, and riding less. Discover how millions have freed themselves from gridlock to better enjoy a sustainable life.
“Save Gas, Save the Planet is the best book that I have seen in describing practical solutions for driving less and buying the right vehicle. John Addison offers accurate insights into the latest electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, biofuels, and flexible work strategies. As someone responsible for the air quality for 7.5 million people, I recommend this book.”
Jack Broadbent, Chief Executive Officer
Bay Area Air Quality Management DistrictElectric Vehicles 2010
General Audience: 40,000 in the USA already drive electric vehicles that are wonderful if you don’t need freeway speeds. These light electric vehicles typically max out at 25 miles per hour and 25 miles per charge. Freeway-speed electric vehicles will be increasingly available over the next 18 months. This year, 1,000 will be driving the Tesla Roadster, but the sportscar costs $100,000. By the end of 2010; several electric vehicles will be priced at $30,000 to $40,000 before the $7,500 tax credit. New EVs include the Nissan Sedan, Ford Commercial Van, and Chrysler’s Dodge Sports Car. If the 100 mile range of these new cars is not enough, then your options include several plug-in hybrids.
Transportation 2020: Riding on Sunlight
General Audience: In only 10 years, we will see a surprising increase in transportation powered by renewable energy instead of fossil fuels. Public transportation will be used at record levels. Much electric light-rail and buses will be zero-emission. High-speed rail will link major pubic transportation systems. There will be growing use of electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and innovative “last miles” access to and from transit. Millions of individuals, corporations and local governments will power their vehicles with renewable energy including wind, solar, geothermal, ocean, sustainable hydro, and bioenergy.
The Great Fuel Race
Industry Leaders: Markets pick winners and losers. Competition is heating between gasoline, diesel, biofuels, hydrogen, natural gas, and electricity. Infrastructure, regulation, funding, and vehicle standards create barriers to change. This presentation details the issues and scenarios for win, place, and show by 2020. He outlines where success of one type of vehicle will actually accelerate the other’s success and where it is a battle for early market success. Presentation Handout
Living in a Sustainable City
Transportation Planners, Developers, and Land Planners: Leading cities are benefiting from a demographic shift to more urban density. Success stories are shared by Portland, San Francisco, Boulder, London, Copenhagen, Vancouver, and other cities in attracting people, encouraging sustainable development, reducing congestion, achieving record public transportation use, increasing walking and bicycling, accelerating zero-emission vehicle deployment, implementing smart grid and smart charging, and reducing the city’s carbon footprint. Look to the future as Dongtan and Masdar race to build the world’s first zero-emission city.

John Addison is the author of Save Gas, Save the Planet which details the transportation solutions to stop global warming. For some, better mileage is the result of the way that they travel; for others, the result of what they drive. Save Gas includes over a thousand stories and facts. Save Gas also includes 120 actions that enable people to make a difference in lowering emissions and increasing their bank account.
